Got my new pair of Newton Distance Racers in today to replace my old ones shown below. I was hoping my old ones would have made it through the Kentucky Marathon, but the upper started to rip out by my pinky toe and was getting larger. Thanks to a monetary donation, I was able to pony up $150 for a new pair. Yes, they are one of the most expensive shoes on the market, but they are also the absolute most comfortable.
I have had my old pair since last November and have put 700-800 miles which makes them well worth the money compared to any other shoe that lasts 350 miles. The cool thing about Newtons is that the shoes wear from the outside instead of other shoes that once the cushioning is gone, so are the shoes. The four lugs on the bottom of Newtons provide both shock absorption, cushioning and energy return. Most marathoners complain about how bad their feet hurt towards the end of a race due to soreness and blisters, I had none of that my last marathon with my feet feeling pretty much the same after as they did before.
If you look closely on the photo below, all of the black stuff is Shoe Goo that I put on to keep the lugs and high wear areas from getting destroyed and make the shoes last longer. The lugs on Newtons will wear out about 350 miles like any other shoe. Start putting Shoe Goo on the lugs when you get them worn where you want them so that you get your money's worth out of the shoes. I apply the Shoe Goo at least once per week or as soon as I see any of the lug showing.
If you run or want to run, click my link over on the right side of this page and buy yourself a pair of Newtons. For runners converting to a midfoot/forefoot strike, get the Guidance Trainers.
